"Granted, granted I’m a babbler, a harmless, irksome babbler, as we all are. But what’s to be done if the sole and express purpose of every intelligent man is babble—that is, a deliberate pouring from empty into void." - Fyodor Dostoevsky, Notes from Underground
I love words and people. I am a high school English teacher, and there is nothing that I'd rather do than teach. I'm a compulsive reader; if there are words in front of me--a magazine, a cereal box, a neon sign with missing letters, safety instructions on gym equipment--I will read them repeatedly until I find new words. I try to read novels more often than coupon rules and exclusions. Most of my journal entries are about teaching or reading. I am married to the most brilliant, loving, and inspiring person I know. I am empathetic. I use a lot of interrupted sentences in my informal writing--which is the only sort of writing I do of late--and enjoy a good parenthetical aside (maybe because of my love of Victorian self-conscious narration).
